Please do not follow through with this proposal. The only thing that should be changed about the greenbelt is adding more areas to it, we should not be removing such large swaths especially considering how much underdeveloped land we have outside of those areas that we can use.
I believe this idea needs a lot more say from climate scientists and ecologists on the impact this will have on our local ecosystem before it can even be thought of moving forward. Saying you'll add more land to the greenbelt doesn't change the potentially catastrophic impacts on animal migrations, waterways, and other very important ecological and geological features of Ontario. Also we'd be trading greenbelt areas of forested ecosystems for rocky outcroppings. Both are important but fill very different niches in our environment and they cannot be traded for each other.
I also can't help finding it suspicious that Ford himself admitted that this idea came from developers. These people have a vested interest in their own capital and not in the wellbeing of our province and environment.
Houses are important, but they're not more important than the Earth and land we live on. Use the land we already have to build these developments and stay out of our greenbelt.
