I am completely opposed to any use of the Greenbelt other than for its original purpose, i.e., farming and conservation. Adding property to this area, including areas in the Paris region, would be welcomed. We must protect the Oak Ridges moraine at all costs. Protecting our water supply is crucial to southern Ontario’s well-being. Developers should not be allowed to profit from land set aside for food production and people’s enjoyment of nature. Unbridled growth from Niagara Falls to Oshawa has resulted in wall-to-wall cities and I am continually disgusted by such lack of foresight among planners.
I am even more distressed by the growth in the world’s population and the seemingly endless need to produce more and more on a continually diminishing supply of land. Our economic system is unfortunately built on continuous growth and I hate the fact that expansion is the only option for the future. How depressing! I hope there will be room left for my grandchildren to take a walk in the woods and see a bird or two.
