I am sure that many others will comment on the negative environmental effects building within the greenbelt will have on cities, towns, and our rural areas surrounding these areas that will be open for development. I would share the same concerns as those. However, I will focus my comment on a part of the issue that gets very little coverage. Will this make housing cheaper? Most likely not. Unless we tackle the financialization of our housing (ie. someone purchasing a house or condo as an investment rather than a home) then we will not have more affordable homes. All governments are currently supporting the misallocation of funds to an unproductive asset, unless you are willing to tackle that problem everything else is just for show. Also, this whole process reeks of corruptness.
