I oppose the removal of protected lands from the Greenbelt for the purpose of building homes. The government has not provided evidence that simply opening more land for development would in fact ease the housing affordability crisis and meet coming demands, nor that the environmental cost is justified. Removing this land would also set a precedent, compromising the Greenbelt's future integrity. We would be better served by optimizing the use of land already approved for housing within urban and suburban areas. Simply providing more lots for houses is not sufficient - the government needs to provide a detailed and evidence-based plan for building space-efficient, livable, sustainable communities.
