Hello.

As stated in the proposal:
"The government introduced the More Homes Built Faster plan, which takes bold action to advance our plan to address the housing crisis by building 1.5 million homes over the next 10 years. The government is taking further action to support this goal by launching a consultation on proposed changes to the Greenbelt that would support our municipal partners to plan for responsible growth and help build housing faster and in a targeted manner, while leading to an overall expansion of the Greenbelt."

The government hired a group of experts to comment on what needs to be done in order to increase housing affordability and resolve our current housing crisis. On pages 10-12 of the "Report of the Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force", the task force states "a shortage of land isn’t the cause of the problem. Land is available, both inside the existing built-up areas and on undeveloped land outside greenbelts." Not only are there better options than building inside the Greenbelt, using part of the Greenbelt to build housing is the wrong strategy. "Most of the solution must come from densification. Greenbelts and other environmentally sensitive areas must be protected, and farms provide food and food security. Relying too heavily on undeveloped land would whittle away too much of the already small share of land devoted to agriculture. " The report goes on to list more benefits of housing density rather than expansion. Thus, there is no reason to touch the Greenbelt.

This is a report written by experts. Those who proposed these amendments are not.

Don't touch the Greenbelt. Thank you.
