I am greatly concerned that Bill 23 will eliminate 7,400 acres of the current Greenbelt and subject it to intensive development. I feel that that development, along with the bill’s limits to scope and funding of Conservation Authorities, would be an unwarranted assault on the very limited amounts of green space and agricultural lands in the vicinity of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
In addition, I feel that the development in the Greenbelt that Bill 23 will allow for, actually misses the opportunity to intensify housing availability near existing places of employment that have greater access to public transit. I strongly believe that Bill 23 should be withdrawn and in its place, legislation made that protects our invaluable environment and agricultural lands, and programs created that ensure safe and affordable housing for all.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment.
