I disagree with the plans to remove lands from the protected Greenbelt in order for developers to build on that land. The whole point of the Greenbelt was that it was important to permanently protect green space in Ontario in the context of current and future pressure to develop on that land. Of course developers want to build on that land, they stand to make lots of money on that, but the whole point is that it has value for current and future Ontarians (like my one-year old son) as a Greenbelt. If we remove the protections of this land, what's to stop a future government from removing more land? They could swap it out for new "protected land" in Northern Ontario somewhere maybe.
The Ontario's government's own Ontario Housing Availability Task Force has said that “Land is available, both inside the existing built-up areas and on undeveloped land outside greenbelts,” and that “We need to make better use of land.”
