I would highly encourage the Government not to continue with removing areas of the Greenbelt as part of this plan. The Greenbelt was created to protect and preserve the high quality farm land and ecological systems that surround and support the GTA. Swapping one piece of land for another is not a zero sum move and is an irreversible decision. Building on ecologically sensitive lands is not something that can be undone in the future. I have never written into a government request for comment before but feel very strongly that this is not the way to solve our housing shortage. Please instead investigate any of the already in progress plans/investigations that have been been made into in-filling already available land and utilizing missing middle housing options (like townhouses and low-rise multiplex units) that would provide a greater number of units within the ample space we already have available. Promoting more urban sprawl will only hurt our ecosystems and municipalities while not effectively driving down the cost of housing units.
