I do not support any removal of Greenbelt land for development. This proposal places the interests of developers over the people of Ontario, which is deeply troubling. The Ford government is disingenuous in claiming that any development of the Greenbelt is necessary to help solve the current housing crisis. As stated in a report conducted by the Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force in 2022, "a shortage of land isn’t the cause of the problem. Land is available, both inside the existing built-up areas and on undeveloped land outside greenbelts. We need to make better use of land. Zoning defines what we can build and where we can build. If we want to make better use of land to create more housing, then we need to modernize our zoning rules." (pg. 10). The More Homes Built Faster plan will not only fail to address our housing crisis, but also cause irreparable damage to our environment and quality of life. I urge the government to act in the best interests of all Ontarians and cancel this outrageous plan.
