Opening up the Greenbelt will not sufficiently address the housing crisis in Ontario. The Ontario government itself published a housing affordability task force report that stipulated what is needed to address this hosing crisis and at no point was “development in on the Greenbelt” a recommendation. The report itself CLEARLY states that “ But a shortage of land isn’t the cause of the problem. Land is available, both inside the existing built-up areas and on undeveloped land outside greenbelts.
We need to make better use of land.”
What is proposed here is not only a violation of the public’s trust (as it was promised that the Greenbelt would be protected) but also an obvious money grab for developers as it’s clear that behind the scenes knowledge has filed must of what’s happening.
