The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) fully supports the Ontario government's recovery goal for the Carolinian population of the Eastern Massasauga. Specifically, we support the need to implement not only habitat protection, restoration and enhancement initiatives, but also population management actions such as conservation translocations. Staff from ERCA have been extensively involved with various conservation and habitat enhancement initiatives within the Ojibway Prairie Complex, including active participation on the Ojibway Prairie Reptile Recovery Working Group. ERCA is fully committed to continued participation on that Working Group, as well as through other initiatives, in order to assist the Ontario government to achieve the stated goal for the recovery of this Endangered Species.
