It took years to get greenbelt designation for these areas, only to see them wiped out by short sightedness. To say it is for affordable housing is an oxymoron. Subdivisions are not affordable. The cost of putting utilities in place is astronomical. Then there is the cost of transportation and the environmental impact of cars and trucks. The displacement of animals and roadkill is too high. Cities are struggling with boarded up buildings, empty lots and no affordable housing for the marginalized people. The transportation in the cities is already in place as are the utilities. Most of these amenities are under utilized. Building houses on good farmland will cost young couples too much. Not only the cost of the home but also the cost of food having to be imported from other countries that can shut off the supply on a whim. We need a long term plan not political ploy’s that change from one election to another.
