The Greenbelt is vital to food production, green space, and regulating urban expansion and sprawl. The ecosystem services it provides are incalculable but extremely valuable. The housing crisis should be addressed through better land use planning within the greenbelt, including concentrated housing, building up, and expanding transit options. There is no scenario in which infringing on the Greenbelt will provide more benefits than drawbacks. The government needs to better regulate the land they have, rather than entering this important space.
