I am strongly opposed to the proposed changes to the Greenbelt Plan. The removal of lands from the Greenbelt will NOT address issues of housing supply and affordability. Your government's own expert panel stated that the problem is not a lack of land for housing but is instead how existing urban lands are used.
The proposed changes to the Greenbelt Plan will contribute to suburban sprawl and destroy farmland, woodlands, wetlands, ground water sources and watersheds. The land being added to the Greenbelt in one specific area, some of which is already protected from development, is a poor substitute for the proposed widespread land removal.
Affordable housing (both owned and rental) needs to be built within existing urban areas NOT in sprawling far-reaching suburbs that rely on car ownership and long commutes.
