The point of the green belt is to maintain Ontario's nature and to keep urban sprawl in check. The increase in urban sprawl on the edges of the GTA does not help the affordability and livability in terms of housing. A 1:1 swap taking land and paving the green belt over is not sufficient when the swap includes land that was never in danger. If the goal was to protect the Paris Galt Moraine you would need to add 4 times to land to the green belt but this area was not at risk, the land surrounding rivers was never at risk. If the purpose of the housing bills is to create housing; the provincial government should require density on land that is already open for development.
