The proposal to develop the Green Belt is terrible! These areas are protected for good reasons. I have reviewed all of the rationale you have presented, and it does not pass.
Your own planners have told you that there is enough land for the housing needed without destroying more of our environment. The Greenbelt protects farmlands, the environment, multiple species, and clean water. Furthermore, it serves to mitigate the devastation of climate events. Your proposed development is reckless, irresponsible, and irreversible, wrong for our Province, and wrong for the planet. And there is NO GUARANTEE that the homes being built will be affordable.
You are also undermining the Conservation Authorities which have served the citizens of the Province for 50 years. We are in a climate crisis. This proposal is simply and totally wrong.
Furthermore, waiving developers' fees will undercut municipalities' abilities to provide vital infrastructure for new developments AND for maintain existing infrastructure.
Bill 23 should be repealed in its entirety. You said you would listen to the citizens of this Province, and you promised not to touch the Greenbelt. We are speaking - again: do not develop the Greenbelt!
