I am writing to you to express my concerns regarding Bill 23, the More Homes Built Faster Act. This legislation will make our community less green, ultimately result in cuts to service provision, and will threaten to exacerbate the climate change issues we are facing in Ontario.
I strongly support the provincial government’s intention to create more housing for Ontarians, but not to the detriment of healthy, livable communities. Parks, green spaces, and recreation are a key contributing factor to property value, conservation, tourism, and health. They are a proven way to reduce crime, increase physical activity in a population, and build a sense of community. In short, this Bill threatens the economic, environmental, and social well-being of the province.
Please reconsider developing on ecologically significant areas such as the Greenbelt, for the sake of our present and future generations.
