I am strongly opposed to the announcement that the government intends to use Greenbelt land for home development through passage of Bill 23.
The government’s Housing Affordability Task Force stated that the housing crisis is not caused by a lack of land to build on. Urban sprawl and loss of farmland, which affects our food security, are the very negative consequences of this decision.
Premier Ford stated clearly prior to the election that the Greenbelt would not be developed and has no mandate to do otherwise. Ontario’s appeal as a destination both to olive and travel is due in part to the quality of our environment. Paving over any portion of the Greenbelt destroys this for future generation.
I urge the government to abandon implementation of Bill 23 and save this vital environmental resource.
Thank you.
