"Perhaps you have heard of the amendments to the greenbelt which have been proposed by the Ford government in order to build Highway 413. If not, some background information can be found here: Link. Experts in many fields agree that this will have a devastating impact on wildlife, but also on health. It is being proposed as a solution to the current housing crisis, but there is a significant lack of evidence that the homes built from this project will be affordable or accessible to low-income Canadians, who are currently struggling the most. Additionally, it cuts through valuable agricultural land which supplies much of Ontario with produce - this could have a detrimental effect on food prices in an already unaffordable province. These are only a few of the negative impacts this project may have. If considered as a "program", this project has done an abysmal job of involving the perspectives of diverse stakeholders and experts in the field. It also has actively rejected the opinions of those in the communities affected by the project. Many unintended consequences are known, but being actively ignored by those wishing to proceed with this project.
