I wish to voice, in the strongest possible terms, my opposition to de-protection and development of Greenbelt lands. The Greenbelt was meant to be protected in perpetuity so that there would be farmland and clean water in proximity to Toronto and the rest of the Greater Golden Horseshoe. To remove its protections is near-sighted and actively works against the best interests of the people of Ontario.
The plans of municipalities that were able to meet growth targets without sprawling should not be overridden, especially for the sake of destroying the green infrastructure and natural heritage that so many rely on. It is a clear violation of repeated promises, and it can not be justified in the face of alternate plans to combat the housing crisis.
The Greenbelt's protections must be maintained.
