I am opposed to the removal of Greenbelt lands. Our protected areas are vital for environmental stewardship, flooding management, and fighting climate change. The rationale that this land is required for housing is flawed - there is more than enough room in municipalities' existing development zones and within their municipal plans. We must build more densely where municipal services already exist, and where there is access to transit and other community amenities. More cars driving into sprawl neighbourhoods is also detrimental to the environment due to increased emissions and air pollution. Building housing sprawl on the Greenbelt is only going to damage the environment in so many more ways. We can help build more homes already where people are in need - in our cities and towns that have existing infrastructure to support additional homes. Build up, not out, and increase density where people already live. Our protected lands must remain as such and be closed for development in perpetuity.
