It would appear that the legislation has been developed solely to benefit Doug Ford's developer friends who, in some cases, have bought large parcels of land in the Green Belt at great costs after they knew it could not be developed. The whole issue does not pass the smell test. The opening of the Green Belt should not be permitted to go ahead when there are other areas, not in the Green Belt, that can be developed in the time frame the government has imposed for new housing. I don't disagree that new housing is required. However once the Green Belt, even a portion of it, is opened for development it can never be undone. Once again the government is only thinking short term (and how cronies can benefit financially) and not long term about how this will affect Ontario and its residents years down the road.
