Given the information I have been able collect with respect to this legislation, I AM AGAINST MOST SECTIONS OF THIS LEGISLATION. I feel that very little effort has been made to see the long term effects. If we accept that on the surface this is simply a payout to private developers, after all, one of the key lobbyists for this land grab is a former PC president. The optics are horrific, and I would say potentially criminal. Time will tell which. Then of course there is the downloading of costs from private developers to taxpayers. Unacceptable!
Corruption is rampant in this government, sadly many of us have just come to accept it, my bigger concern is this governments lack of interest in science. Ford and his cronies feel they are untouchable, all powerful, but they are WRONG. Mother Nature should NEVER be challenged. This legislation does just that. For the past 68+ years, top environmental scientists have studied flood patterns and used this information to create conservation areas that are designed to protect the environment and the people who live within the influences of these waterways.
I have seen or heard nothing from this government to assure me top environmentalists have been consulted. In fact, Mr. Ford seems to think that we can rely on developers to “not build in areas that may flood”! Indicating, that once again, this government thinks it’s okay to ignore the experts, hired to give expert advice. Sadly, again, only time will tell. Having said that, with climate change on the rampage and massive weather events becoming all to frequent, I fear the time of reckoning will not be too long of a wait.
I would ask that the government slow down, suspend this legislation and do the necessary scientific investigations as too future impacts.
