I'm very concerned by the proposed Greenbelt changes. It is challenging balancing the need for housing with the need for food security, but this balance is not struck effectively with these regulations.
We need to leverage existing lands within urban boundaries rather than building out and encouraging sprawl. We need to maintain current farmland.
Furthermore, we need to consider whether the suburban home model is sustainable in our current context. Not everyone requires a 3-bedroom home with a driveway and a large yard. Those homes take up a ton of space and invaluable farmland.
I'm concerned that all of this Greenbelt destruction will only amount to 50,000 homes built.
Surely, if we chose to build up and keep the greenbelt we could build 50,000 while keeping the Greenbelt in tact.
