I am totally opposed to the proposed amendments to the Greenbelt Plan that would remove 7,400 acres of land from the Greenbelt. There is a vast supply of unused greenfield land already open within existing municipal boundaries and the current round of Official Plans would add more of non-Greenbelt land that could be developed.
Further, I am shocked that the government would go back on their promise not to touch the Greenbelt - both Premier Ford and Minister Clark made their promises. And, I'm deeply concerned that some developers who will benefit from the 15 parcels of land being proposed for development, purchased these lands a few months if not weeks before the announcement.
We need our wetlands to ensure flood zones and remain as carbon sinks. We need the Greenbelt to protect endangered species and provide needed farmland.
Please do the right thing and leave the Greenbelt in tact.
