I think it is outrageous that this government is proposing to pave over valuable farmland to build housing. We cannot reclaim this land after such housing is built. The purpose of protecting the Greenbelt was to intensify housing within municipal limits to avoid destroying farmland and to prevent environmental disasters such as flooding (something which has been studied and deemed necessary).
Such short-sightedness is clearly service to the construction industry and not to the actual need for housing. Affordable housing is necessary; mansion-sized single family homes do not meet this need.
This government MUST NOT tamper with the Greenbelt, it MUST NOT repurpose the Greenbelt to satisfy the construction industry and, most importantly, if this government is serious about providing much needed housing, it must be responsible for building affordable housing within municipal limits and in such a way as to prevent urban sprawl while at the same time preserving neighbourhoods (i.e. not building monstrously high condominiums that come attached to monstrously high prices).
