I am so deeply disappointed in the Government of Ontario’s decision to build and develop areas of the Greenbelt. It’s the only thing stopping the GTA from unmitigated urban sprawl. It’s home to many species, captures carbon which contributes to our provincial commitment to combatting climate change, and it provides much needed green space for people to enjoy. I’m furious with this decision as it seems to reflect little care for the advice of experts in the housing sector who recommend densification over sprawl. This decision reflects a disregard for the environment and actively goes against our climate change goals. It’s also unnecessary for achieving the housing targets we’ve set for ourselves. It seems to me that it reflects a decision to satisfy developer donors more than anything else. Find somewhere else to build homes.
