This proposal does not have the support of the people, is not for the good of the people, and is certainly not for the good of Ontario's environment. It will undo decades of environmental stewardship, science, consultation and law-making. The greenbelt is intended as a contiguous protected area, specifically chosen for its value to watersheds, wetlands, species, and local food sources. Allowing it to be degraded for the political and financial gain of a few individuals, at the expense of the province, is in no way based in science or environmental protection. Once these lands are developed, they are gone forever. And once lands start being removed from the greenbelt for political expediency, there is no end in sight. At that point, all developers will know that the Greenbelt Act is a mere inconvenience that can be removed for the right price.
