I am distressed to find that the proposed Bill 4 is a totally negative initiative.
There is no proposal as to how the province plans to reduce emissions or how the province plans to achieve reductions.
It is my considered opinion as a professional Engineer and scientifically literate citizen that:-
Ontario needs a real climate change plan to reduce emissions, to enable people to save energy and create jobs in the $26 trillion clean economy.
Ontario needs to Identify how to make polluters pay for their emissions.
Such a system by putting a price on emissions can return the revenues to the pockets of Ontarians so they can lower their carbon footprint.
Such a plan has indeed long been advocated by Conservative politicians, so is hardly a party-political issue.
Ontario requires a legally binding emissions target plan in line with our obligations to the Paris Climate Agreement.
Ontario should plan to be 100% powered by clean energy as soon as possible and certainly before 2050.
By ending subsidies and handouts to fossil fuel companies and redirecting that money to clean energy solutions Ontario could make significant progress towards its climate change obligations.
