As a resident of Ontario, particularly Hamilton, I do not support Bill 23.
The lands that are proposed in this Bill, which surround Hamilton, are some of the most arable lands in the country. We need food security just as much as we need housing. Yet, housing can be built up, unlike agriculture.
The biodiversity is the areas of the Greenbelt is important to our health and wellness.
Extending the urban boundary strains our municipal finances, because sprawl costs more than does a compact city. As presented, this Bill puts an excessive strain on municipal finances.
The majority of peer reviewed research, urban planning experts, health experts, and environmentalists agree that compact cities are better for us.
This Bill is short sighted and does not address the root causes of the housing crisis for lower to middle income Ontarians.
I do not support this Bill.
