This is not what this government promised and it is most certainly not what the people of Ontario voted for.
This is not only a bad idea but an idea with irreversible consequences. There are other proven solutions for addressing housing access and affordability that could (and should) be implemented instead.
Adding housing supply in these areas will be burdensome for municipalities to service as suburban and rural housing costs more to cities than it generates in terms of tax revenue. This is a recipe for higher taxes, vehicle dependency, and does nothing to solve the housing crisis.
"But a shortage of land isn’t the cause of the problem. Land is available, both inside the existing built-up areas and on undeveloped land outside greenbelts." This quote is from Page 10 of the Report of the Ontario Housing Affordability Task Force. Please listen to the experts. This plan to build on the Greenbelt is not in the best interest of Ontarians. There are better solutions to housing, housing affordability, and for the planet.
