Dear Minister Clarke,
In reviewing the proposal I would like to bring to your attention a few errors. While your proposal indicates that these green belt lands are needed to increase housing supply I would like to bring to your attention to page 10 of the Report of the Housing Affordability Task Force which indicates that “a shortage of land isn’t a cause of the problem”. This would seem to invalidate your need to remove these lands from the green belt.
Secondly your proposal indicates that additional land will be added to the green belt in the form of ravines. These lands while not in the green belt are already not available for development as they are in floor prone areas and are therefore not at risk for development.
Lastly, there is no mention of how this proposal will alleviate the suffering of property developers such as Silvio De Gasperis’ TACC who as reported in the Globe and Mail November 28, 2022 article entitled “Developers who bought Ontario Greenbelt land linked to Ford government” have borrowed $100 million at 21% interest rates.
Thank you,
A concerned Ontario citizen.
