I am writing in response to the proposed amendments to Ontario's Greenbelt. I am against the amendments that would permit construction of housing or other development within the current Greenbelt. Ontario needs to show leadership by rejecting the outdated concept of white picket fence housing in order to build sustainable low-rise, high-density housing within current city limits. By doing so the Government of Ontario can increase housing security without sacrificing food security. As you know, southern Ontario contains some of the best farmland in all of Canada. Also, southern Ontario has some of the greatest biodiversity in all of Canada. Let us preserve Ontario's food and biodiversity with smart housing that creates a healthier and safer living space for all Ontarians and not just the fortunate few. Planning decisions made now will effect all Ontarians, young and old, rich and poor, for multiple generations; make sure the Government of Ontario chooses a green Ontario with sustainable living for all to grow and succeed.
