I would like to register my strong opposition to the current plan of developing the greenbelt lands. The premier of Ontario promised that he would not consider developing any of the protected greenbelt lands, and as a member of the public I believe that he should uphold his word now that he has been elected. While increasing housing stock is an important and urgent goal, the proposed plan is not an efficient way of doing so and is not supported by groups with knowledge and expertise related to housing and environmental science. The greenbelt lands have a much greater value to Ontario left as they are, versus what they would offer as low-density housing in areas that are not easily serviced or accessible by those who need housing the most. The negative impact of this proposal on environmentally sensitive and important lands cannot be undone, and if carried out will be seen as a failure of this government by future generations of Ontarians. Please reconsider.
