I'm writing to voice my vehement opposition to the developments proposed for the Greenbelt as it is terrible, short-sighted policy. Destroying irreplaceable wetlands with inefficient tract housing causing more congestion is not what we need at the moment; furthermore, nature is not patio furniture - you can't simply take it away from one place and add it another. IT's doubtful such plans will be adequately followed through on and, further, something like the Oak Ridges Moraine that took thousands of years to develop can't simply be recreated somewhere else. With the ever-looming climate crisis we need to preserve as many natural spaces as we can - it serves us as well because it's irreplaceable farmland.
We have huge swaths of already developed land within the the current boundaries of the GTA that can be converted into housing - let's do that first and foremost before touching a single tree in the Greenbelt.
Doug Ford promised to NOT develop the Greenbelt - stick to your word!
