Ontario's land use planning system should:
-work to end urban sprawl by putting new development in areas that are already settled
-encourage efficient, affordable housing such as multi-unit buildings and dense housing
-discourage inefficient housing, like detached single-family homes in unserviced subdvisions
-require complete communities, with parks and amenities within walking distance
-require required safe infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists of all ages, and aim to reduce the very high number of traffic deaths we have been seeing in Ontario for decades
-encourage and enhance public transportation, and discourage new highways and car-based infrastructure
-plan for the changing climate by requiring appropriate flood-proof infrastructure, and saving our precious remaining farmland, wetlands and green spaces
