As an Ontario taxpayer I am strongly against Bill 4.

Firstly, the bill is very vague. For example, it states that the Minister shall set climate targets and create a climate plan, but there’s no deadline that this needs to be done by. There’s no mention of doing any public consultation. There’s no real details in it at all.

Second, the cap & trade program that was already in place was a good plan, it’s worked well in other places such as BC and California. Dismantling it and suing the Federal government to avoid the carbon tax is simply a petty waste of taxpayer money.

With all of the extreme weather events that have been happening in Ontario and elsewhere, it is past time that we do our part to limit global warming. Downplaying the issue, which is what Bill 4 appears to do, will be a huge mistake that we will all pay for in a few years time.

Please do not pass Bill 4 as it is. Either make it more robust and specific (i.e. deadlines, public consultation, etc.), or scrap it altogether and keep the original cap & trade program.

Thank you.
