To be clear, I have deep concerns about the proposed changes in this legislation. and therefore state my opposition to it..

When a license is issued, the issuer (in this case, the Province of Ontario) has a public duty to provide oversight of the license through all its stipulations. Mining especially, given the history of treatment and health risks of mine workers as well as health risks to animals, plants and people near the mining site requires copious oversight throughout the life cycle of the mining operation.

In addition mining often ignores and overlooks our treaties with first nations as we "take what we want" without appropriate and extensive consultation and involvement of first nations. Due diligence is required prior the the government issuing a license, but this legislation appears to be eliminating much of the due diligence, therefore I strongly oppose this legislation.

I am aware of the recent accusations levelled from the public gallery at the government about licenses issued in the ring of fire, without conversations and due consideration of the impact on First Nations.

This legislation appears to be changing laws so that transparency in both government and private enterprise can escape public scrutiny.

Having submitted comments before on other proposed legislation (fall 2022) I expect once again that any public comments made here will have little, if any effect, in the direction the government is proposing.
