I believe cap and trade for CO2 emissions is an effective, evidence based method for reducing emissions.
Larger companies that can afford to emit, do. Smaller companies capable of scaling back emissions with accessible, efficient technology at a non-prohibitive cost, do.
At the same time, total emissions can be kept under the control of a set limit.
Care must be taken to assure fair bartering of the permits. For example, to assure they are affordable to all groups so as to prevent a monopoly of company growth.
We hope, as research scientists ourselves, that work continues to promote cap and trade. A nobel prize is proof enough of its effectiveness.
