Sadly, Ontario is somehow considering allowing new penned dog hunting facilities for penned dog hunting - keeping foxes, coyotes and rabbits in enclosed pens where hunters train their dogs to hunt wildlife and run competitions. This inhumane and unethical practice subjects captive wild animals to unjustifiable cruelty, abuse, and suffering.
The proposed changes would be a disturbing reversal of a previous 1997 decision to phase out train and trial areas. Other provinces and states have banned penned hunting, and Ontario needs to join them in banning this barbaric and unethical practice. This serious animal welfare issue reflects very badly on Ontario, which should form part of a cohesive whole with all the other Canadian provinces proudly pursuing contemporary first world ethical standards in animal welfare. This unsettling issue has already gained widespread international disapproval.
