I strongly opposes the Ministry of Natural Resourses and Forestry's proposal to ammend the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act to allow licencing of new Train and Trial facilities. While the goal of providing a safe and controlled environment for training hunting dogs is understandable, more modern methods need to be found. The Ministry's own preamble indicates that in 1997 the expectation was that these facilities would eventually all shut down on their own. Allowing new ones to now open does not seem to meet a real need. Now has the government demonstrated that there is a need for new facilities to be allowed. The ongoing goal of the government should be to work towards closing the remaining Train and Trial facilities.
