I strongly support a cap and trade policy and do NOT wish to see the program cancelled. If cap and trade revenues are redistributed they harm only the polluters, not ordinary citizens who are trying to reduce pollution to reduce our emissions. I would personally prefer to see revenues reinvested in transit, energy efficiency incentives, and improved infrastructure, but if political imperatives require that the government gets the credit for providing individuals with rebate cheques, so be it. Either way, emissions will be discouraged. The new UN report released on October 8 tells us that there is urgency to act and if we do not reduce our emissions, catastrophic impacts will affect us all. Even if Ontario is not as badly affected as B.C. with its wildfires, we are morally obliged to do whatever we can. And who is to say that Ontario will not suffer floods, ice storms, and heat waves again - most likely we will. Disasters cost us all money, and adaptation and planning can save us money and lives.
