Carbon pricing (cap and trade, tax, etc) schemes have proven to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in other jurisdictions of the world. The ON Cap and Trade also provided a source of funding for projects that not only resulted in GHG reductions, but also in fuel (natural gas) reductions and cost benefits to the companies.

Some of the largest emitters in the province are energy intense, trade exposed, companies. They can benefit from funding that allows them to improve their competitiveness in the international/North American arena. Furthermore, many of the largest emitters in the province have international headquarters (e.g. General Motors, Fiat Chrysler, Union Steel, ArcelorMittal Dofasco, etc), and are not only competing internationally, but also internally with other divisions in jurisdictions that offer competitive incentives. For many of these companies, cap and trade projects' could have benefited them from a job retention viewpoint.

In terms of economic development and job creation, the ON Cap and Trade also had a positive impact in the province.

Carbon pricing also allows a multi-billion dollar industry of clean technologies to thrive in Canada, and export internationally.

I would be happy to contribute to any new carbon pricing strategies that the Ontario government would like to develop going forward.
