As life long residents of Ontario, we are very concerned about the repeal of Cap and Trade without an existing, credible, alternative plan.
All evidence shows that bold action must be taken immediately to prevent the significant negative effects of climate change on Ontario, Canada and the world.
As life long environmental educators and naturalists, we have already noticed negative impacts on some species.
Extreme climate change not only has severe negative ecological impacts, it will have major negative impacts on public health and the economy (the recent explosion of black legged ticks carrying Lymes disease across much of southeastern Ontario, damage to public infrastructure due to more severe storms, increased forest fires, etc.)
The new climate change plan to be prepared by MOECP must set targets that help Ontario and Canada meet our international obligations as set out in the Paris Agreement.
We are fully supportive of the carbon tax that the Canadian government will implement in 2019 as carbon taxes are the most efficient and economical way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Please show leadership on this critical issue as our actions now will shape our future.
