This policy is a regressive step back in the fight against climate change, which is an unprecedented challenge that threatens the future of all Ontarian. It moves Ontario away from a responsible and cost-effective policy to curb carbon emissions and brings nothing but uncertainty and a lack of an achievable plan, and vague promises, in its wake. It is all the more concerning - as a voter, Ontarian, and parent - in the wake of increasingly dire scientific warnings and overwhelming consensus that we have very limited time to collectively turn the tide against irreversible climate change. This is only underscored in the latest report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which should give the new Ontario government pause and ample reason to reverse the dangerous course it has set. The dismantling of existing cap and trade programs, and environmental policies writ large, by the new Ontario government will only further undermine our ability to move to a lower carbon future in the short time we have - and all for irresponsible, short-term political gain contrary to the public interest and greater good. Instead of building on the progress achieved in Ontario to put a price on carbon and advance clean energy and growth, this proposition is a needless addiction of leadership from Canada's most populous province and largest economy. It will go down in history as a huge and costly mistake, where our future - and that of our children - was mortgaged for greed.
