I am very concerned about the “minor projects”, “management” of “hyerabundant” wildlife, “management” of beaver dams, control of pathogens, and “mitigating human wildlife conflicts” mentioned in the ERO. This “management” usually involves trapping and shooting wildlife. Killing off cormorants and deer, drowning beavers, and trapping/shooting “human conflict” wildlife is cruel, outdated, and does not solve the problem. There is no such thing as “humane dispatch of wildlife”. And there is no such thing as “hyperabundant” wildlife. Leave the deer, cormorants, and other wildlife alone. If “feral” animals are displaced by natural disasters, rescue them. And please ban all rodenticide in parks.
As for rabies control/control of rabid animals, the MNRF does not use culling, they uses oral vaccines, injected vaccines, and test animals found dead.
Truly humane non lethal management methods are suggested, like birth control, relocation, and hazing, what is not mentioned is education, non lethal beaver management, and proper waste management.
