I am very concerned about the streamlining proposals that are described in this ERO. Specifically, I worry that eliminating critical government and public scrutiny from some projects could have significant impacts on the environment and human health. Waste-management systems which transport asbestos, hazardous and biomedical waste can pose significant risks such as cancer and infectious diseases if not properly monitored. It is up to our provincial government to protect its citizens and their environment. Allowing self regulation for these types of projects is a recipe for disaster such as happened at Walkerton because of lack of oversight. I urge the provincial government to abandon the plan to institute the streamlining proposals in the interest of protecting Ontario’s citizens and the environment
