The existing waste disposal site at 29831 Irish School Road, is currently designated as a waste wood disposal area, whereas this proposal would augment both the size and scope of the facility. During previous environmental investigations on the Northeast side of the Sydenham River, through Dresden, it was identified that the area was a habitat for the Jefferson salamander and the undeveloped area at the east side of the existing disposal area is a watershed to Long Creek and the Sydenham river. The Jefferson salamander is on the Ontario endangered species register.
In addition to this, the false hop sedge grass has been identified in a proper environmental assessment completed five years ago at a nearby property.
Changing the nature and scope of the existing disposal site will negatively impact the delicate ecological balance and native habitat of these two endangered species.
