This proposal is outrageous, disheartening and downright unbelievable. The proposed facility is only 1km from a developed town and to be constructed on property that containes both endangered species, and Molly's Creek which feeds right into the Sydenham River.
The amount of traffic that transportation of this material will create is disruptive to all of the surrounding communities. We do not have the infrastructure to support the large volume of transport trucks, and have chosen to live in an area where we don't have to deal with said traffic.
I have attached a couple of sources which detail environmental impacts of asbestos and poor management. I completely understand that these are not local sources, but they demonstrate that contamination happens. I do not care about the steps york1 wishes to take (run off ponds, monitoring, etc). It is not a matter of "if" a contamination happens, it is a matter of "when". Whether it be human error, poor management or cost-cutting... It is just a matter of time before there is a negative impact on our air quality, ground water or soil. When this happens there is little that can be done to return the environment to its original state.
Please do not allow this proposal to proceed as the community does not want to face the associated risks. York1 has already demonstrated that they don't really care about the citizens or ecosystem in this area.
