WHY is York1 thinking of putting this project in the middle of a flood Zone?
Dresden has a well known HISTORY of continual major flooding, so opening a landfill dump with Leachate ponds that will drain directly into Molly's Creek in the middle of a flood zone is dangerous and crazy
Does this government know how landfills kill people and the environment because this is exactly what will happen if this gets approved in less than 1 km from Dresden.
And this landfill will only continue to grow larger.
The V,P of York1 can not even honestly answer questions of the 2 municipalities on which they border about how safe this project will be or what routes their garbage trucks will come from.
Southwestern Ontario will need to build new roads to handle these huge 80 tonne trucks at tax payers expense. People will have to loose apart of their land to widen these country roads to accommodate such large trucks.
It is proposed there will be approx 700 mega trucks carrying 80 tonnes of garbage per day, that equates to about 1 truck every 4 to 5 minutes. Our children and migrant workers are at high risk when they bike ride along these streets because you cant stop one of these trucks very quickly.
After a long journey from the farthest places in Ontario, these trucks will come through Dresden for their bathroom breaks or to grab a coffee at our local Tim Hortons, now you're damaging property with these heavy trucks running through town.
The shaking these trucks will do to homes as they rumble through towns will start damaging homes leaving the property owner to foot the bill for many repairs.
Why is York1 allowed to ship Toronto's garbage so far?
In 2017 the Ontario government passed the Waste Free Ontario Act, the first step in imposing rules that would prevent businesses from shipping garbage to landfills.
Why cant Toronto fix their own garbage problem??
Why does Southwestern Ontario need to be the dumping ground for larger cities just because tipping fees are lower in the rural country?
There are many closed deep mines farther up north that can bury all this garbage.
Why does YORK1 who has been lying to the province feel they can reopen a 40 year old closed property they claim was used as a landfill, when it ever held burnt fly-ash and was never intended to be used for landfill with these proposed amounts of 365000 Tonnes. (A Tonne is more than a Ton)
There were complaints that Bill 23 would gut municipal planning, impose huge costs on municipalities, destroy wetlands, and hinder the creation of affordable housing, but this government won’t listen.
because they control the Ontario legislature and is using their majority to become more and more autocratic.
Not only has York1 been lying to this entire town about NOT having a plan, when all you needed to do was a Freedom Of Information request to see they do have a plan.
The plan to REOPEN a landfill on this site is severely flawed to be put on top of large oil and gas pockets.
York 1 has been lying to the province because they have drilled a well 6 meters and found gas pockets that have now damaged the local water wells of neighboring water wells.
Ontario does not need another Wheatley that blew up because of fractured Oil pockets, causing millions of dollars in damages.
There is now a $100,000 000. class action lawsuit filed by residents of Wheatley.
When Dresden blows up because of this proposal damaging gas and oil pockets, how much is the province willing to pay out in another lawsuit?
Oh wait.. everyone will be dead, so there may not be any lawsuits, but that's not the way to think.
York1 has lied to the province because they have stated in many of their legal documents, reports and paperwork, that they have 2 addresses listed as their proposal sites, however we already know one of those listed sites was never sold to York1 management. York 1 does not and has not ever owned one of those listed sites that they have claimed in lawyers letters, to the province and also on their Aviva Insurance records.
They have already been caught with FRAUD. and that is illegal.
Because the V.P of York1 has lied and has been caught doing insurance fraud through Aviva Insurance, to a neighbor and also Waste Management Recycling Services, it has left both parties liable for damages if there an accident that had happened, because for 13 months the V.P of York has insured this property they do not even own, so Waste Management services could transport what they have pulled out and cleaned up from their original address so Waste Management was able to transport materials to the Watford Landfill.
ALL while not having the proper insurances in place for 13 months.
So we are to trust a company that cant even get their paper work in order? NO NO NO!
If the V.P of York1 acted with such criminal and reckless disregard of their neighbors as well as Waste Management and Recycling Services, how can York1 be trusted they will not further act with criminal intent and disregard while operating on this proposal property and also the residents of Dresden?
York1 has lied to the Province by submitting their proposals in with this address for a property they never owned and then to insure their project to a property they never owned for over 13 months.
Every concerned citizen in Ontario and in Dresden understand this Ontario government wants to destroy the environment and dismantle the St Clair Conservation authority by April 1st 2024, to allow big corporations to do whatever they want to ruin the environment, however this project is also less then 1 km away from the Town of Dresden, our residential homes and schools.
York1 also says they will build and drain their leachate ponds beside Molly's Creek and that drains into the Sydenham River.
The Sydenham River also flows directly into Wallaceburg and Walpole Island Native Reserve and at no time has this government ever consulted with the local native reserves in this area to get any approvals from them because they hold water right on the Sydenham River which York1 proposes to pollute when it rains and down pours and floods their leachate ponds and then into the conservation paradise of the Sydenham river.
Our Chatham Kent city council voted they do not support this project 14-0 and the bordering municipalities also do not support this project according to Mayor Alan Broad with Dawn Euphemia.
As well as Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley and his council also is against this project.
This government party unveiled a “Made In Ontario Environment Plan,” which promised municipalities greater say in landfill approvals.
That led to Bill 197. Passed in 2020, it required that, prior to commencing an environmental assessment, a landfill proponent obtain a copy of a local municipal council resolution indicating that the council supports the project.
If the site is located within 3.5 kilometers of a border with an adjacent municipality, the proponent needs to obtain a separate resolution from that council as well.
York1 has been quietly purchasing many more Hectare's around their address making them larger than most other landfills.
These new purchases to add to their proposed NEW Landfill will now be 1/2 a km from their new southern berm, making it even closer to town and homes and schools.
York1 has no intentions on stopping to enlarging their properties.
York1 has used a number company that gives an address in Dresden that does NOT exist and we have proof of that.
The previous owner of property, when he tried allowing people to dump on this property, he was continually fined from the province because dumping anything was NOT allowed on this property.
How can York1 now claim it is an existing landfill when the past owner couldn't use it as that??
Is York1 allowed to throw so much money around to get their own way and pay off people and politicians to get what they want? That is Illegal too.
York1 claims now it to be a regenerative Recycling Facility but if you look to End by products in Germany, Australia and New Zealand, these types of facilities do not work.
(Google that yourself and you will see)
This property was never a landfill , as it was always used as a Tile Yard and for limited incinerator fly-ash, and when it was closed in November 20,1980 there was a Provisional Certificate of Approval Waste Disposal site certificate that stated NO Operations shall be carried out at this site after 60 days from this condition becoming enforceable unless this certificate. including the reason for this condition has been registered by the applicant as an instrument in the approved land registry office against title to the site and a duplicate registered copy thereof has been returned by the applicant to the director.
Doug Ford stated in 2018 " As a former city councilor, he respect the right for local municipalities to make the decisions best for their communities," he wrote that in a statement.
However, York1's own wording on proposals, is New Landfill. Why would you allow a new landfill this close to homes and schools?
Ontario Premier Doug Ford said that " his government supports allowing municipalities to opt out of landfill proposals in their jurisdictions. " We are not going to stick something in an area that people don't want, “ he stated.
Well 3000 of the residents and taxpayers in Dresden and surrounding area, do not want this landfill / recycling facility that will operate on a 24 hour 7 day a week schedule.
The entire town of Dresden have spoken, written over 2000 comments that were mailed to the provincial proposal offices in Toronto, and we all say Dresden does NOT want this to happen in or near our town away because this company’s proposal has deliberately misled the Ontario government on what they can do on this property!! Again that is Fraud!!!
Dresden's history is best known as the home of Josiah Henson, an African-Canadian abolitionist and minister whose life-story was an inspiration for the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. The Henson homestead is a historic site near Dresden and is operated by the Ontario Heritage Trust.
Is this what York1 wants to bring to Dresden to celebrate the rich Black history of this town?
Dresden is building New homes, and we don't need a landfill to stare out our windows at, just because Ontario is running out of landfill space.
Dresden is an agricultural community and we grow tomato's and corn for consumption. Nobody will eat vegetables grown here with asbestos blowing on it and leachate feeing their root system.
Biodiversity is the variety of life on earth. Richness in the diversity of species as well as the genetics of species is vital to the sustainability of this ecosystem. Everything in our ecosystem is interconnected from the insects to the fish and trees. If a part of this web becomes out of balance or lost, everything else will be affected.
The Sydenham River watershed also supports many semi-aquatic Species at Risk including amphibians, turtles, Queen snakes, and dragonflies.
Some of these species are found nowhere else in Canada or remain in only a few locations globally.
The Sydenham watershed is of global conservation concern for the persistence of these species (such as Fawnsfoot, Liliput, Rayed Bean mussels, soft shell turtles, and more), which only occur in one other location in Canada and persist in only a few locations in North America.
Dresden It is a biological treasure and it is the only major watershed that lies completely in the Canadian Carolinian Life Zone and it supports such an amazing diversity of aquatic life and an incredible variety of wildlife. At least 80 species of fish and is home to at least 34 mussel species and turtle species. More than 20 fish and mussels in Sydenham River are Species at Risk.
This area is a spawning zone for many fish including Walleye and catfish, that swim to the great lakes.
Are people to catch poisoned fish and eat these from where a landfill spews poison into the waterways?
How is that for the health care system to not realize your catching fish poisoned by landfill?
If this proposal goes through, the cost to Ontario Health Care will sky rocket into the billions of taxpayers dollars, because there are over 2900 residents of this town Dresden, who all will become so sick with Cancers and Mesothelioma, lung issues and so much more, because a Landfill / Mega Dump was allowed to open less than 1 km from residential homes and schools, even when Bill 197 states no landfill / garbage dump should be allowed within 3.5 km away from residential homes.
Ontario.ca Land Use On or Near Landfills and Dumps: A guide for land use planning authorities on how to decide what types of land uses are appropriate near landfilled waste.
Section 5:4 Where significant impacts are encountered at or beyond 500 meters, the study area within which an assessment for any change in land use is recommended, shall be extended beyond the 500 meters
Areas set out in Section 5.3. “ Historical evidence in Ontario has shown that the maximum distance within which adverse effects could be experienced while a landfill is operating is up to 5 kilometers”
Leachate can contain high levels of ammonia. When ammonia makes its way into ecosystems it is nitrified to produce nitrate. This nitrate can then cause eutrophication, or a lack of oxygen due to increased growth of plant life, in nearby water sources. Eutrophication creates “dead zones” where animals cannot survive due to lack of oxygen. Along with ammonia, leachate contains toxins such as mercury due to the presence of hazardous materials in landfills.
Along with methane, landfills also produce carbon dioxide and water vapor, and trace amounts of oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen, and non methane organic compounds. These gasses can also contribute to climate change and create smog if left uncontrolled.
York1 has used threatening tactics to near by residents and quietly gone about procuring this land without letting Chatham Kent or the province know what their true intentions are.
They purchased 150 more acres of farm land and expect Chatham Kent to rezone from agricultural to industrial for their use when it was never intended for a landfill of that size or any other landfill.
Landfill are one of the causes of climate change and major health issues to the public.
Landfill sites are partially responsible for global warming as they generate and release biogas into the atmosphere. Biogas is a mixture formed primarily of methane gas (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂), two of the gasses that cause climate change and an increase in the planet's temperature. According to the ISWA report, if the current situation continues and we do not take action, landfill sites will account for 14% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.
This proposal originally stated they would only use the land as a landfill until 2035, however at the town meeting York1 held under duress by the towns people they admitted they are planning to sustain this New landfill for at least another 50 years. Until 2075 A,D ( after all our deaths)
Landfill sites are often responsible for the contamination of soil and groundwater, as the contaminating materials (such as heavy materials like lead and mercury) that the stored waste may contain can spread to the soil and water near the plant.
Moreover, although it is not very common for waterproofing membranes to rupture, it has a devastating effect on the environment when they do.
Landfill sites have particularly negative effects on bird migration. Some birds feed from landfill sites , inevitably ingesting plastic, aluminum, gypsum and other materials that are common among waste, which can even prove fatal.
This project can not happen this close to Dresden, let alone in this ecological paradise where there are so many endangered species already at risk.
Southwestern Ontario has inclement weather with high winds and a lot of rain.
That will flood leachate ponds and overflow into the Sydenham River.
Please don’t let this happen in this part of southwestern Ontario
What this proposal is, will be a new project site that doesn't have proper regulations in place for what York1 intends, so close to our homes, and having it this close to town will only cause death to this town, the people and the environment as well native species of endangered animals, Trees and aquatic life.
Would Ontario do this to the Amazon rain forest like they plan to do here if York1 is allowed to get their way?
Ontario needs more housing in this community, but all that is proposed is a huge Mega Dump instead of housing people most vulnerable.
What nobody is focusing on will be. property values will drop and everyone in Dresden will become very ill with cancers, and other major illnesses that come with living beside a garbage dump / landfill, because we all will be breathing in asbestos, and methane gasses as that is what is proposed in their own proposals.
Why is the Province wanting to make Mega landfills so close to the south when there are many more places further up north that has land and can sustain a landfill better than on top of oil and gas reserves that can blow an entire community?
Do our votes mean so little to this government?
Southwestern Ontario has inclement weather with high winds climate change and a lot of rain.
That rain will flood leachate ponds and overflow into the Sydenham River and affect those that live close to this river system. Our water wells will get polluted and people will die.
What this proposal is, will be a new project site that doesn't have proper regulations in place for what York1 intends, so close to our homes, and having it this close to town will only cause death to this town, the people and the environment as well native species of endangered animals and aquatic life.
Dresden is not even close to any major highways to make the transporting of recycled materials easier.
York has acted mendacious. They have lied to the province, the municipality of Chatham Kent and the residents of Dresden and been proven to be involved in Insurance fraud with Aviva Insurance as seen in their own paperwork. This will become a huge news story that will affect the way people vote.
York1 can not be trusted!!!!!
This project can not happen this close to Dresden, let alone in this ecological paradise where there are so many endangered species already at risk and close to 2900 tax paying citizens who live in and around the Sydenham River area.
A famous song writer has recently released a song called Dresden Landfill and he asks what is wrong with politicians that they cant see the damages to this entire area we call home.
This agriculture area grows much of the Ontario and the worlds foods and vegetables,
Dresden has the Con-Agra food processing plant that employs over 300 full time staff.
Are they suppose to wash their tomato's in river water when their intake spout is downstream from a major polluter?
The Con-Agra company will leave Dresden and this town will lose a major employer, and Ontario will need to pay unemployment benefits to so many people because there will never be another company that will replace Con Agra and hire so many people.
Can the tax payers of Ontario be willing to support so many more unemployed people, and retirees when they become so ill and sick and require more health care than a larger city?
York1 has taken advantage of an old ECA to a closed property that was never intended for this property to be used as any type of landfill for what York1 intend to do with these properties, especially less than 1 km away from this town.
Dresden demands the province enacts Bill 197 to save this town.
Landfills are expanding every year.. Nobody can tell Dresden this will not be another expanding landfill once York1 get a foot hold into Dresden..
This town will become a ghost town because York1 would have killed everyone off.
We need the Provincial government to enact his own Bill 197 to save this town.
Our town has made it a point to let all of Canada know what is happening here and we are getting support from unions, environmentalists, Liberal and NDP parties all over Canada who all agree, Dresden is NOT the place for such a facility or landfill.
